Let’s start with the ranking of the individual playing cards from high to low:
Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2
The ace can also count as 1 in a straight (flush). However, it can only be added to the beginning or end of a straight.
The suits of the playing cards have no rank in Texas Hold’em.
classic poker hands
A high card is when a player cannot make up any of the following poker hands. In this case, the card with the highest value of the five available playing cards is valid. If two players have high cards in the showdown, the highest playing card applies. If the two players have two equal high cards, the next highest playing card is included, and so on.
One Pair are two playing cards of the same value. The higher value of the pair of one player wins. If the pairs have the same value, the next high card decides. In poker, this playing card is called a “kicker”.
Two Pairs are two pairs of different playing cards with the same value. The higher playing card values of a player’s two pairs win over the lower playing card values of his opponents’ pairs.
Three of a Kind
A triplet, also called a trip, consists of three playing cards of equal value. The higher playing card value of a triplet wins over lower triplets. If the triplets have the same card value, the next high card (kicker) wins.
Four of a Kind
A quad, also called a quad, consists of four cards with the same playing card value. The higher playing card value of a quad wins over lower quadruplets. If the quad has the same card value, the next high card (kicker) wins.
A combination of a pair and a triplet makes a full house. The higher playing card value of the triplet in the full house wins over the lower one. If three of a kind, the full house combination with the higher pair wins.
The flush is basically a combination of any five playing cards that are all of the same suit. The higher playing card value of a player’s flush wins over lower flushes of his fellow players.
A road is called a straight. The values of five playing cards must be consecutive, regardless of the suit of these five playing cards. For example, a straight can consist of the following playing cards: 8-9-10-J-Q or A-2-3-4-5.
The Straight Flush is basically a Straight, but where all playing cards are of the same suit. A Straight Flush counts as the second highest hand in Poker. For example, the cards are called Q-J-10-9-8 Queen high Straight Flush.
This hand is like a combination of straight and flush, but the straight starts with a 10 and ends with an ace. This is the highest cards of a single suit in sequence. This poker hand is very rare.
